Mississippi Blood Services will be at Columbia Rehab and Healthcare for a blood drive to help cancer patient Alranzo Dexter on Friday.
The blood drive is being held in conjunction with Mary Angels Ministries and Springhill Missionary Baptist Church Brotherhood.
The event will be held beginning at 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Hot dogs will be provided to the donors, as well as T-shirts.
Dexter is in need of blood platelets, which are in critically in demand. He receives the platelets through blood transfusions. Currently there is a shortage of all types of blood and platelets.
One of the organizers of the event, Loretta Brown, said they are hoping to collect enough blood for Dexter, but also for other patients in need.
