Two organizations are teaming up this year to create a toy drive to benefit the children of Marion County. Mary’s Angels Ministry and Safe Haven have collaborated together in this endeavor.
Loretta Brown, with Mary’s Angels Ministry, said she knows a lot of families that have working parents, but because they are working, they’re unable to receive assistance. Yet those same families are struggling to get by and now have to worry about Christmas for their children.
“My passion is for senior citizens, but the children of the ones who are struggling are also on my heart,” Brown said.
Ella Ruth Johnson, with Safe Haven, said at first she wanted to see about getting bicycles for the children of all sizes and for children up to age 12. The idea came from family members donating money to help organizations with Christmas presents for those in needs.
Toys can be dropped off at 315 Peach Street, where Habitat for Humanity is located on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Brown is working on setting up other donation drop-off locations.
The toy drive will continue until Dec. 10.
Johnson said if other organizations would like to join in the toy drive, they are welcome to do so.
“If we can come together, we can do more,” Johnson said.
