The Pine Burr and Marion County communities are mourning the loss of Catherine Ann Martin, who went missing from her residence Saturday and was found dead on Monday in a wooded area nearby.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office began its search Saturday evening after Martin, 62, was reported missing. She was last seen around 3 p.m. that day. The sheriff’s office, along with local, state and federal teams, launched a widespread search effort that included multiple dog teams in an effort to locate her.
Martin, who reportedly suffered from dementia and other serious medical conditions, had struggles previously of returning home from walks, according to a social media comment made by a family member.
A dog team picked up the scent of Martin’s clothes Monday afternoon, which led to her discovery in a heavily wooded area off of Firetower Road near Hibley Hill Lane, according to the sheriff's office.
Although her exact cause of death is unknown, according to the sheriff’s office, no foul play is suspected. Martin reportedly was insulin dependent and had not had her insulin, according to the sheriff’s office.
