The Marion County Board of Supervisors proclaimed April as Child Abuse Prevention Month alongside Kids Hub Advocacy Center Monday morning.
The county’s proclamation was read aloud during the meeting by Chancery Clerk Elisha Moree, and, in part, states “Every child deserves to grow up in a safe, supported and nurturing environment free from abuse and neglect; and, whereas, child neglect and abuse are serious issues that effect children and families in Marion County, Mississippi, and across the nation with lasting effects of physical and mental well-being; and, whereas, Marion County is committed to strengthening families, supporting survivors and working towards the prevention of child abuse through education and awareness.”
Kids Hub Founder and CEO issued a statement as well, thanking the board and saying together, they can build a “safer, stronger future for every child.”
“As the Founder and CEO of Kids Hub Child Advocacy Center, I want to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to the Board of Supervisors for issuing a proclamation recognizing April as Child Abuse Prevention Month during their recent board meeting,” her statement reads. “Their leadership and willingness to shine a light on this critical issue demonstrates a powerful commitment to the safety and well-being of our children.
“Child Abuse Prevention Month is not only a time to raise awareness — it is a call to action. Every child deserves to grow up in a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment. At Kids Hub, we work every day alongside dedicated community partners to provide hope, healing, and justice to children who have experienced abuse and neglect. The proclamation made by the Board of Supervisors — and one that our community takes seriously.
“We are honored to partner with county leaders, law enforcement, child protective services, medical and mental health professionals, and concerned citizens who together form the safety net that helps children heal and thrive. We hope this proclamation will encourage more individuals to engage, educate, and advocate in ways that helps prevent abuse before it happens.”
