Two women wanted in connection with a Saturday morning murder in the 600 block of Bourbon Street in New Orleans were arrested on Eagle Day Avenue in Columbia just before noon on Sunday.
Mia Lindsey, 22, of Katie, Texas was arrested on a warrant for second-degree murder, while Mariah Campbell, 26, of Cincinnati, Ohio was arrested for accessory after the fact to second-degree murder.
The shooting, which claimed the life of a man who has yet to be identified, occurred Saturday morning around 4:07 a.m. at the intersection of Toulouse and Bourbon streets, according to a press release issued by the New Orleans Police Department.
The NOPD issued a be-on-the-lookout (BOLO) for a suspect vehicle and Lindsey and Campbell. Their car was located by the Columbia Police Department in the area of U.S. 98 and Mississippi 13 South. When the vehicle was located, it was unoccupied. The CPD, in conjunction with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, staked out the vehicle after confirming it belonged to the suspects.
Both local police departments followed the suspect vehicle until it was in a safe area on Eagle Day Avenue before conducting a traffic stop, according the sheriff’s office Capt. Pete Williams.
“All occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody without incident,” Williams said. “We couldn’t have asked for a better ending to a difficult case.”
“You never know who you’re going to run into or what kind of situation you’re going to run into on a seemingly routine day, but our guys did an incredible job,” Columbia Police Chief Michael Kelly said. “The partnership between us and the sheriff’s office was flawless. The two teams worked really well together. We’re happy with the outcome and happy to be able to help another agency from out of state.”
Three occupants of the vehicle were apprehended, with Lindsey and Campbell being taken into custody and the third being release. The NOPD was notified of their detainments and subsequently traveled to Columbia to conduct interviews with Lindsey and Campbell.
Following the interviews, Lindsey and Campbell were booked into the Marion County Regional Correctional Facility, where they remained as of press deadline Tuesday awaiting extradition to Orleans Parish.
The investigation involved the NOPD, Louisiana State Police, FBI New Orleans joint Violent Crime Task Force and Violent Crime Abatement Investigation Team, CPD, MCSO and Mississippi Highway Patrol.
The identity of the victim will not be released until the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office can determine the official cause of death upon completion of an autopsy, according to the press release.
