Jamison Kelly, who played football with Joshua Brown at Columbia High School and Jones College, surrendered himself to the Columbia Police Department Friday morning and has been charged with accessory after the fact in the Jackson State killing that occurred Sunday, which Brown was charged with murder in.
Columbia Police Det. Michael Turner said Kelly was released into the custody of Jackson State University campus police after his surrender for a warrant.
Brown was arrested Wednesday at Jones College and charged Thursday in Hinds County with murder for the shooting death of Jaylen Burns, 21, who was a Jackson State student from Chicago.
Kelly played football at Louisiana Tech for two years, transferred to Jones College, where he played one season with Brown, and transferred to the University of Indiana for the 2023 season. However, at the time of the incident at Jackson State, Kelly was no longer a member of the Hoosiers football program.
Indiana head football coach Tom Allen said during a press conference Sept. 28 that Kelly was no longer with the program and did not say why.
The Columbian-Progress will continue to provide updates to the case as more details are made available.
