For the second time in the past six weeks, Kameron Virgil, a 20-year-old Columbia man who served in the Army National Guard, as a firefighter with the Foxworth Volunteer Fire Department and as a proclaimed minister, has been arrested for engaging in sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 14.
Virgil was originally arrested by the Columbia Police Department May 17 for statutory rape, and he now faces charges of statutory rape and sexual battery for a second victim. Like the first arrest, these charges stem from an investigation that dates back to 2023, according to a press release issued by Det. Micheal Turner.
Turner said in a press release that Virgil’s crimes are particularly concerning considering Virgil held “multiple positions of trust” within the community.
Virgil’s bond has yet to be set, and he remains in custody at the Marion County Regional Correctional Facility. Following his first arrest, Virgil posted a bond of $5,000 to be released while the investigation continues.
“The Columbia Police Department remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding the law and ensuring justice in cases of sexual assault,” the press release states. “The department's Major Crime Bureau's unwavering dedication and expertise in investigating such offenses underscore our resolute determination to safeguard our community and protect our children while holding offenders accountable.
