A checkpoint by law enforcement netted three arrests and a large amount of numerous types of narcotics off the streets Saturday night.
On Jan. 28, Marion County Sheriff's deputies were conducting a safety checkpoint at U.S. 98 East and Enon Road. Deputies made contact with a vehicle driven by Crystal Miller of Pensacola, Fla., leading to a huge discovery.
Miller initially gave false information to deputies about her identity. Miller's passengers were identified as Stephen Ritchie of McComb and Devin Marzan of Pensacola, Fla.
Deputies observed drug paraphernalia in plain view in the vehicle, and Miller was suspected of driving under the influence. During a standardized field sobriety test, Miller admitted to using narcotics and that there were narcotics in the car. During the course of the investigation, numerous narcotics were found by deputies, including marijuana, methamphetamine, fentanyl, heroin, oxycodone, Xanax and Adderall. A firearm, digital scales, containers, syringes, pipes and bagging materials were also located.
Miller was charged with four counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute while in possession of a firearm, felony possession while in possession of a firearm, DUI other substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and providing false information to law enforcement, as well as having two out of state warrants from West Virginia and Florida, according to Capt. Pete Williams.
Marzan was charged with six counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, and Ritchie was charged with felony possession, according to Williams.
