Samuel Kendricks, 57, of Oak Vale died in a one-vehicle motorcycle accident Sept. 3 while evading police officers.
The Columbia Police Department received a report of a reckless driver on U.S. 98 riding a red Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle. It was reported that the motorcyclist was “overtaking vehicles at a dangerously high speed,” according to a press release issued by the CPD.
Officers attempted to pull over Kendricks, who was later identified as the driver of the motorcycle, but he evaded officers and “proceeded to flee at accelerated speeds” while traveling westbound. Kendricks then lost control of the motorcycle just past DOC Energy Services, veered off the roadway, crashed and died of injuries from the impact.
The accident is currently under investigation by the CPD, who said it is actively working to collect information, according to the press release.
