A DUI stop turned into a high-speed chase Sunday in Foxworth and Morgantown before a 28-year-old Foxworth woman was arrested and charged with eight offenses.
Destiny Creel, 28, of Foxworth was charged with felony eluding, DUI-third offense, possession of paraphernalia of a controlled substance, driving while license is suspended or revoke, no proof of insurance, disorderly conduct: failure to comply with commands from law enforcement, felony eluding: driving recklessly and resisting or obstructing arrest.
Deputies received information Sunday of a blue Ford truck parked on the road with an apparently passed out individual behind the wheel. When Deputy Kopen Nightingale arrived on scene, the vehicle was spotted not far away from where he was dispatched to, and he conducted a traffic stop on the truck.
When Nightingale made contact with Creel, she appeared to be under the influence. Upon searching the vehicle, he found drug paraphernalia and suspected residue. Creel then ran back to her vehicle, put it in drive and floored it.
The pursuit started on U.S. 98 toward Columbia before Creel turned onto Old Morgantown Road, where she allegedly ran a car off the road. She proceeded to run numerous stop signs before getting on Mississippi 587 and traveling on the wrong side of the road.
Nightingale attempted to get in front of Creel’s vehicle, but she attempted to side swipe his cruiser multiple times. She eventually pulled into Oak Grove Apostolic Church, where she was taken into custody.
Creel has since bonded out of jail.
