On Sunday, officers of the Columbia Police Department investigated a vehicle that had been parked at the gas pump at Keith's Superstore for an extended period of time, which led to a pair of arrests.
Sgt. Curtis Dement and Officer Scott Thompson arrived at the vehicle and saw two men asleep inside. After they were awakened, the men identified themselves as Jatoby Lampton, 21, of Tylertown and Raquan Handy, 23, of Franklinton, La.
The vehicle had the smell of marijuana coming from it, and a vehicle search revealed a Smith & Wesson .38 revolver that had been stolen from Washington Parish, Louisiana.
Both suspects were arrested for the stolen firearm. Handy was also charged as a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Both suspects are out on bond.
