Columbia police have arrested a Carson, Miss. man Tuesday following a lengthy pursuit through the northern portion of Marion County.
Michael Hamilton, 35, of Carson, has been charged with felony fleeing and possession of stolen property. CPD agents Poirier and Corley were conducting a crime suppression detail when they made contact with the vehicle believed to be occupied by a wanted person.
The vehicle Hamilton used to flee from officers is believed to have been stolen from the Las Vegas Police Department in Las Vegas, Nev.
Rankin County escapee Jerry Raynes, who was an occupant in the vehicle driven by Hamilton, jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot after being let out in the area of Pittman Road in rural Marion County. Also in the vehicle was Marissa Lott, who was wanted by police for questioning.
“Our guys did an outstanding job with this pursuit. No one was injured and no property damaged," Kelly said. "Vehicle pursuits, just by their nature, can be very dangerous events. We certainly appreciate the support from the Marion County Sheriff's Office as well. Very good job by everyone involved.”
As of press time Thursday, Raynes remained at-large. He escaped from the Raymond Work Center on Aug. 7, where he was incarcerated following an arrest for auto theft. Raynes, who has a history of escaping from correctional facilities, also escaped from the Jefferson Davis County Jail twice. Hamilton remained in custody in the Marion County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
