Stamps Body Shop, located at 3880 Mississippi 35 in Columbia, is ready for all of your car repair and maintenance service.
Owner Ronnie Stamps began the business with his father nearly five decades ago.
“It started off with me and my father, Redgie Stamps, in 1972,” he said. “We were in it together until he passed away. I’ve owned it by myself for more than 10 years now.”
Stamps and his two employees, Durek Butler and Bedri Graham, offer a variety of different car services for their customer base.
“We do wrecker service, glass installation, but mostly body, paint and collision work,” Stamps said. “That’s our main thing. We’re a full-service collision repair shop.”
Stamps said the longevity of the business and the quality of the parts it uses separates Stamps Body Shop from similar businesses.
“We just try to do a good job and use the best parts and best materials,” he said. “We’ve been in business for a long time, so we know what we’re doing.”
Stamps Body Shop works hard to make sure it uses the best quality parts available on the market.
“We check to see if the manufacturer stands behind the product and do our research to make sure we use the best parts,” Stamps said.
Stamps explained the step-by-step process for getting a wrecked vehicle back on the road.
“The first thing will be for them to get in touch with their insurance company and file a claim,” he explained. “Then the insurance company will get in touch with us or send out an adjustor to get an estimate. Then we order the parts, start tearing it down, make sure there’s no hidden damage, do any frame repairs, then any sheet metal repairs, reassembly, prep work, paint work and then detailing it.”
Stamps said he got into the car repair business because of his father.
“My father started off in it and I kind of worked in and out with him and got in it because of him,” he said. “I picked it up, learned and have been doing it ever since.”
However, Stamps’ true passion for vehicles is undeniable.
“I’ve always enjoyed cars, working and being around them,” he said. “I’ve always been interested in cars, and I like being able to turn a car into something else. I like being able to take a wrecked vehicle and get it back on the road and satisfy the customers. It’s never the same job. There’s always something different. It’s just interesting.”
Stamps’ goals for his business are all about remaining a top-quality repair shop.
“I just want to keep improving and staying on top of all of the changes and everything that’s going on in this business,” he said. “It’s constantly changing with the paints and materials and things like that.”
