A Good Samaritan has come to the aid of a Marion County church that had shingles stolen while recovering from a tornado.
After reading about the situation in the newspaper, an anonymous donor gave St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church the full amount it needed to finish the repairs.
"The pastor of St. Mark, the Rev. Cleveland Peters, and the members want the public to know that there are still some good people out there," the congregation said in a statement.
St. Mark, which had been hit by the April 19 tornado that roared through south Marion County, killing one and destroying multiple homes and businesses, discovered the shingles missing on July 2 after about half of the roof had been replaced.
Now work has resumed at the building on Mississippi 13 South and is expected to be finished this week.
The church also thanked the Marion County Sheriff's Office and Investigator Brad Anderson for showing compassion and concern during the investigation.
Georgia Fisher, a member of the congregation, summed it up, saying, "It was God's grace and mercy that so much love was shown for our church."
