Monday night the Marion County School Board, on the recommendation of Superintendent Wendy Bracey, approved appointment of West Marion High School assistant principal Ryan Stringer to become the new principal at West Marion Elementary beginning in January. Stringer will be replacing Sherrie Williams, who is retiring at the end of the December.
“I am excited about the opportunity. I am thankful and blessed. I look forward to the challenge. I have a lot of support from Miss Sherrie,” Stringer said after the meeting.
Williams said she has mixed feelings about retiring, but she knows it is time. The thing she said she will miss the most is being around the students.
Stringer has been the assistant principal at West Marion High School for almost five years.
Stringer graduated as an East Marion Eagle in 1995, but has since moved across the river and now lives in Foxworth. He attended William Carey University and holds various degrees in psychology, specializing in testing.
Through the years, he has taught special education, technology discovery and physical education. He began his career at Ellisville State School before spending a year at East Marion, three years at West Marion and 10 years at Columbia before becoming the assistant administrator at the high school.
Stringer is married to Stephanie, and together they have three children.
