The Columbia 10U Angels softball squad battled to a tie for third place with Yazoo City at the state tournament in Magee.
“We played pretty well,” assistant coach Todd Pounds said. “It was a great season.”
On Friday night the locals opened with a 13-0 win over Greene County. On Saturday the team battled the heat and a tough Choctaw County team in a 7-2 loss before shutting out Seminary in the nightcap.
A Sunday afternoon 8-6 win over Lawrence County advanced the team to a night battle with Sumrall and a 9-8 loss eliminated them from the tournament.
Sumrall and Choctaw County began a championship game on Monday night, but it was postponed by rain. The game had not been completed as of deadline Tuesday.
Team members included Caydance Brumfield, Gracie Odom, Kady Stringer, Mia Miciello, Carlee Pounds, Izzy Pittman, Blair Pounds, Kirsten Williams, Adriane Aikens, Carla Herrington, Maggie Smith and Maddie Edwards. Coaches were Cory Odom, Todd Pounds and Denae Pounds.
