Construction has begun on a pedestrian bridge that will allow riders on the Marion County Recreational Railroad to walk to the Bluff Street Park overlooking the Pearl River.
The $650,000 project is 100 percent funded by federal grants for alternative transportation projects, engineer Jeff Dungan said.
He said work should be done by August. The bridge will be in use by the time the Wall that Heals, a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, comes to the park in November.
