Since moving its location to 70 Columbia Purvis Road, Body FX 24/7 has seen its membership rise and has been able to continually improve.
Owned by Donald Rawls and managed by Angela Dawsey, who has been with the business three years, Body FX 24/7 has a new personal trainer.
“We now have a guy, Nick Manton, who is here two days a week — Tuesday and Thursday — at 6 p.m. for one-hour sessions. As time goes on, he’ll probably be able to offer more times,” Dawsey said. “He knows what he’s doing and came highly recommended. He thoroughly enjoys what he’s doing.”
Manton likes working with four to five people at a time and offers a specialized training program.
“They’re not really what you would call boot camp sessions but more like circuit sessions or H.I.I.T (high-intensity interval training). It’s small types of training that target different areas of the body really well,” Dawsey said.
The locally owned and operated gym wants to continue to make improvements to support the community.
“We built this building so we could expand and build a better gym to accommodate the people here in Columbia,” Dawsey said. “We have a lot more space, and little by little we add more equipment each year. Everyone seems to be very happy with it.”
One of the features that separates Body FX 24/7 is its flexibility to work with families.
“We also have a child care room where if mothers and fathers who have small children want to work out, we have a kid’s room where their kids can have free access to at no additional cost,” Dawsey said. “They just bring their kids and let them go in there. There’s toys, crayons, coloring books, a TV, DVD player, DVDs or they could bring one from home.”
Body FX 24/7 also has an outdoor space for members to work out. It’s a well-maintained grass area where members can do sprints and use large tractor tires.
Dawsey said the gym also has plans to add another trainer in the coming months.
“We have our fingers crossed that after the first of the year we will have a female trainer coming. We want to get her here, set up and established,” she said.
Dawsey added she enjoys the laid-back nature of the gym and the freedom it provides.
“I love socializing with our members that come in because everyone is really, really nice. You’re not stuck in an office all the time,” she said. “Working here has its advantages and its freedom because you’re not tied to one specific area. You can go around and talk to people, and you can work out a little bit when you have time.”
The membership cost is $20 per month for an individual, $40 for a couple, $55 for a family of three, $65 for a family of four, and it decreases in price the more you add to it. Body FX 24/7 also offers corporate accounts with businesses.
“You have 24/7 access if you are a gym member, but the office is open Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Fridays until noon,” Dawsey said.
