Columbia police arrested a man Wednesday and charged him with felony counts of child molestation and child pornography.
David Stogner, 27, was arrested at his Horseshoe Drive home and appeared in Marion County Justice Court before Judge Gwen Broom Thursday morning. Stogner’s bond was set at $55,000.
“Detective (Candace) Stuart got a tip about an assault, a molestation,” Lt. Commander Jonathan Harrison said. “She did some investigation and contacted several people. She gathered enough evidence to get an arrest warrant for child pornography as well as child molestation. We got a search warrant signed by a Justice Court judge and executed that search warrant and made the arrest on Mr. Stogner.
“Stogner had an outstanding warrant for domestic violence and was also was charged with possession of paraphernalia.”
If convicted, child pornography carries penalties of five years to 40 years in prison and fines of $50,000 to $500,000. The molestation charge carries a penalty of two years to 15 years in prison and fines of $1,000 to $5,000.
“We’re going to continue to investigate and make sure the victim gets the proper psychological evaluation,” Harrison said. “We’re just going to follow through. At this point there is one victim. Stogner was picked up at his home without incident.”
