A woman is facing charges after allegedly trying to use a 10-year-old child as a mule to smuggle drugs into the Marion County Regional Correctional Facility Sunday.
Tolana Boxley, 40, of Marshall County is now being held on charges of introducing contraband into a correctional facility and child abuse. She faces three to 15 years on the contraband charge and two years to life on the child abuse charge.
The correctional facility said in a news release that Boxley was visiting Marcus Reed, who is serving a 10-year sentence on drug sale charges from Marshall County. She also had a 10-year-old child with her, and officers were alerted to them because of a strong odor of marijuana.
The release said they found a large amount of marijuana, tobacco and crystal meth on the child. They also discovered marijuana, rolling papers and cigar papers on Boxley. Boxley was arrested, and the correctional facility said Reed will also face additional charges as a result of the incident.
