After taking on a tough schedule to begin the year, the Lady Wildcats are rolling with a nine-game winning streak and are undefeated in Region 8-3A competition.
Columbia (12-5, 5-0) picked up five wins in a six-day span, beginning with a 17-1 blowout of Jeff Davis County March 28 at home. Kacey Stampley led the charge with three doubles and 2 RBI, and Madalynn Williamson plated two with a double. Brianna Boyd pitched all three innings, striking out seven while allowing just one hit and one run.
The Lady Wildcats traveled to Perry Central the following night and outlasted the Lady Bulldogs 6-5. Makyla Bell ripped a three-run homer, and Williamson drove in three as well. Stampley got the win in the circle and allowed just one earned run in six innings. Boyd picked up the save with two strikeouts in the seventh inning.
Columbia hosted a doubleheader March 30, beginning with a 6-3 win over Forrest County AHS. Brianna Boyd drove in three runs, while Stampley, Williamson and Leah Nolan each had an RBI. Stampley went three innings without an earned run, and Boyd got the save with four innings in relief.
Then the Lady Wildcats downed one of the top teams in Class 3A with a 3-2 victory over Wesson, who had just one loss going into the contest. Abby King had a double, a single and an RBI, and Williamson and Jessica Baker each drove in a run. Stampley went the distance to get the win, striking out seven and allowing two runs on eight hits and two walks.
On Tuesday, Columbia needed just four-and-a-half innings to dispose of rival West Marion 11-1 on its home field. The Lady Wildcats scored five runs in both the first and second innings as Williamson crushed a two-run shot. Bell had two hits and 4 RBI, and Boyd drove in a pair. Stampley struck out seven in five innings, allowing one run.
Columbia was on the road Thursday night at Seminary, but results were unavailable at press time. The Lady Wildcats will play host to Magee on Tuesday.
