Columbia High School’s musical rehearsals are under way as “The Little Mermaid” comes to life. The show will be March 1 and March 2 in the Crystelle Ford Auditorium.
The cast is rehearsing Monday, Tuesday and Thursday of each week, and more rehearsals will be held as the production dates move closer.
“They’re having a blast,” Kim Walley, CHS choral director, said. “There is a lot of great music in the show. It’s not easy music, but it’s a lot of fun.”
While it is the 41st annual musical, it will be the school’s first performance of the popular Disney story about a mermaid who longs for life on land.
“There are a huge number of extra parts,” Walley said. “In all, about 60 are participating. Every student who auditioned is in the show.”
The shows are divided into Blue and Gold casts with leads performing one of the nights.
Volunteers have been working on the sets. We’ve also got a lot to learn, some character have three changes of costumes in the show,” Walley said.
Tickets go on sale in mid-February, and the show time is moving up to 7 p.m. from 7:30.
