The Mississippi Elite 2026 travel softball team won the USSSA Gulf Coast Summer National Tournament in Gulf Shores, Ala., July 28, its 12th first-place finish of the season, and claimed a national title.
With the victory Mississippi Elite officially concluded its season ranked No. 1 in the country, based on USSSA rules and power rankings, while compiling an overall record of 87-17-3.
The team is based out of Brookhaven but features stars from all over south Mississippi, including Columbia’s Carlee Pounds, who is a pitcher and outfielder for the team.
Mississippi Elite competed in six tournaments in the fall of 2018, with four first-place finishes in Let’s Get Going in Magee, Fall Brawl in Brandon, Fall State in Oxford and Stars of the South in Brookhaven.
In March the squad began an 11-tournament campaign, finishing with eight first-place victories. It won the Spring Warmup in Brandon, Traceway Challenge in Clinton, 1 Day 2 Play in Magee, Angels 4 Autism in Gulfport, I-55 Shootout in Brookhaven, Red Carpet Classic in Vicksburg, Magnolia Classic in Hattiesburg and the Gulf Coast Summer Nationals.
Mississippi Elite 2026 is coached by Duane Burt of Brookhaven, and he is assisted by Todd Pounds of Columbia and Andrew Alford of Magnolia.
The team will move up to the 12u division in the fall.
