This week, the Loaves and Fishes Committee announced that it is planning a day to assist the Terrell family, whose 5-year-old daughter Gentry is battling cancer. Loaves and Fishes came together in 2006 and 2012 to help families in need.
A letter from the committee states that the family needs help with the cost of travel to treatment, which is being done at Ochsner’s hospital in New Orleans, and time lost from work as they spend every second with Gentry.
“This is where we are asking all area churches to become part of the hands of Christ,” the letter states. “We want to reach out to this family in their time of great need. Reminiscent of the time when Christ fed the 5,000 with just five loaves of bread and two fish, we can show this young family true Christian love in our community.”
On Sunday, Feb. 4 the group is planning a Loaves and Fishes Day as a way for all area churches to help. On that day, organizers are asking churches to take up a collection.
“If each person only gave $1, what a difference that could make,” the letter reads. “Like the loaves and fishes of that day long ago, this family will be forever blessed.”
All churches or individuals interested in helping with the special fundraiser are asked to contact Bonnie Hudson at (601) 740-0555, Becky Graham at (601) 467-1671 or Dal Murray at (601) 441-1803.
