A quick response by volunteer firefighters saved a home in Foxworth Thursday.
The Foxworth Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a house fire in the 170 block of New Jerusalem Road around noon and firefighters arrived to discover smoke and flames in the kitchen. The Southwest Marion Volunteer Fire Department was called for mutual aid and firefighters from several other departments were also on the scene. In addition, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and AAA Ambulance Service assisted at the blaze.
Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the residence and flames in the kitchen, according to Marion County Fire Investigator Aaron Greer.
“It looks like it started in the kitchen,” Greer said. “Firefighters extinguished it quickly. It was a pretty good save. The kitchen is gutted.”
Firefighters used fans to clear the residence of smoke and cleared the scene several hours later. The residents of the home were unharmed in the blaze. Greer was continuing his investigation as of mid-Thursday afternoon.
