The Summer Feeding Program is in full-swing at Jefferson Middle and Columbia High schools.
Both schools are taking part in the summer long initiative to provide nutrition to youth in the city. They provide both breakfast and lunch.
The schools are both reporting about 20 students for breakfast and 50 for lunch each day.
“It’s going good and getting better every day,” said Nicole Bass, child nutritionist for the Columbia School District.
This is the second year Columbia High School has offered the program, and the first year it has been offered at Jefferson Middle School.
Bass said the goal is to service the children to make sure they are receiving nourishment.
The program runs until June 28 and from July 8 to July 26. Breakfast is served from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. and lunch is served between 10:30 to 12:30.
The program is being funded by the USDA.
