An early morning fire Friday leveled a home on Duncan Road, though no occupants were home during the blaze.
Foxworth Volunteer Fire Department firefighters were dispatched to 248 Duncan Road at 4:52 a.m. A passerby called and told Marion County Central Dispatch that flames were visible from the structure. Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived on the scene to find the home engulfed in flames.
Foxworth firefighters called for assistance from the Southwest Marion Volunteer Fire Department. AAA Ambulance Service was also called to stand by. At the time of the fire it was unknown if there were any occupants inside the structure. A classic car in front of the home was also destroyed in the blaze and firefighters had to battle propane tanks that were in front of the house. Pearl River Valley Electric Power Association crews were also called to the scene to shut the power down.
During the course of putting the fire out, firefighters were concerned that they may have found human remains in the home, which had burned to the ground. MCSO investigators combed the rubble and called on the State Fire Marshal’s Office to come to the scene.
Capt. Pete Williams said that investigators did not find human remains at the site and turned the investigation over to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Foxworth Volunteer Fire Department Chief Mickey Graham said the two departments had five members and three trucks on the scene to battle the fire.
The last fire units cleared shortly before 9 a.m. Friday. The fire is still under investigation and preliminary reports did not indicate the owner’s name.
