A Lumberton man was arrested Monday outside Walmart in Columbia after allegedly pointing a handgun at vehicles in the parking lot.
Derrick Dement, 29, faces charges of public drunkenness, disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct. He remained in the Marion County Jail as of press deadlines.
The incident happened Monday around 5 p.m. The Columbia Police Department said in a statement posted online that it received a call about a man stumbling in the parking lot and that officers quickly took him into custody without incident. Police said the handgun was not loaded.
The Police Department said his wife, Faith Boone Dement, 26, was inside Walmart at that time, and police said they found Xanax in her purse. She was also arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and later released on bond.
