A Marion County grand jury handed down indictments recently, including one for first-degree murder and another for attempted murder.
Handy Anthony Willis Jr., 50, was indicted on a charge of first-degree murder in the Oct. 6, 2017, death of Tamaneka Alexander, 48, in what authorities said was a domestic dispute. Willis was found unresponsive outside 7 Water Valley Road in Foxworth, suffering from a gunshot wound, and was transported to Forrest General Hospital. Alexander was inside the home unresponsive from being shot. She was airlifted to Forrest General Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Also, Brianna Monique Bettis was indicted on a charge of attempted murder. The Dec. 23, 2018, incident happened on West Jackson Avenue in Foxworth. According to investigators, Bettis had an altercation with Jonathan Lee Jordan and shot him with a handgun while he was sitting in a vehicle. The bullet went through one cheek and out the other cheek. Sheriff’s Investigator Matt Brown said this week the incident remains under investigation.
Both Willis and Bettis are scheduled to appear in court Aug. 8.
