Columbia Police are searching for a man who allegedly shot and wounded another man Wednesday night.
CPD Detective Lt. Jonathan Harrison said Thursday afternoon that police were looking for Shane Michael Brown and plan to charge him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the incident that left John Silas with a gunshot wound to the leg.
Harrison said they were called to Silas’s home at 117 Wiggins Road at 9:05 p.m.
“Dispatch got a call from a female saying that people were attempting to shoot at her son on Wiggins Road. She didn’t know why,” Harrison said.
Harrison said officers got on the scene and found John Silas, who had a bullet wound in his thigh and said he had arrived home shortly before the shooting.
“Mr. Silas tried to chase Mr. Brown around his house and somehow during the incident Mr. Brown acquired a 9-mm handgun. Mr. Silas said Mr. Brown started to chase him toward the bedroom and that’s when the shot was fired. The shot went though John Silas’ thigh and hit the toddler’s bed and went through the wall of the house,” Harrison said.
No one else was injured in the incident, according to Harrison. First responders from the Columbia Fire Department and paramedics from AAA Ambulance Service treated Silas, who declined to go to the hospital.
“We’re still searching for Mr. Brown,” Harrison said. “We’ll charge him with aggravated assault when we find him. If you see him or have information as
to his whereabouts, contact the police department at (601) 736-8204.”
The case remains under investigation.
