Trick-or-Treaters will be able to parade around Columbia from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Oct. 31.
The Columbia Board of Aldermen announced the times during its meeting Tuesday night at City Hall.
“Halloween is on a Tuesday,” Mayor Justin McKenzie said. “Historically, we’ve set the hours from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and I wanted to know if that is what you wanted to consider.”
Alderman-at-Large Edward Hough immediately made a motion to establish the hours on Tuesday, which was seconded by Ward 4 Alderman Mike Smith. The motion passed 5-0.
The Board also heard about the Main Street House of Horrors, which opens on Friday, Oct. 13. Main Street Manager Nik Ingram said volunteers have been hard at work preparing the building for visitors. Proceeds from the haunted house benefit Main Street.
“Next Friday starts our haunted house and I’m super excited about that,” he said. “The guys have worked really hard to get it going. It’s right across the street from City Hall, at
220 Second St.”
McKenzie said the Main Street House of Horrors is about eight rooms bigger than in previous years.
“There might be a lot of spooks, scares and screams,” Ingram added. “I think it is going to be really good. We’re pretty excited about it. I think you’ll enjoy it.”
Tickets for the Haunted House are $10.
McKenzie reminded the Board that October was a busy month in Columbia.
“This Saturday is the Heritage Festival in the park,” he said. “Then on Oct. 28, we have Gator Fest and a big car show. The Main Street House of Horrors will also be open every Friday and Saturday night.”
