The Lady Trojans are still fighting for their playoff lives after splitting their last two Region 8-3A games.
West Marion (9-5, 3-3) is tied for second place in the district with Seminary at 3-3 apiece, with Magee lurking in the rearview in fourth at 2-3.
Only three teams make the postseason out of the district, but West Marion still controls its own destiny.
An eight-run sixth inning helped their chances as the Lady Trojans finished off a season sweep of Magee with a 14-10 victory March 28. West Marion got a ton of production out of the middle of the order with Olivia Miller ripping a grand slam, a solo home run and two singles while driving in five. Paris Thompson had 4 RBI with a home run and a single, and Sara Morgan also had a homer and a base knock with 2 RBI.
Jacelyn Terrell and Miller each pitched 3 1/3 innings, with Miller picking up the win in relief. Terrell struck out two and allowed five runs (two earned) on five hits and four walks, and Miller struck out three and allowed one earned run.
Then West Marion was grounded by its county rival, Columbia, on the road Tuesday. Columbia scored five runs in both the first and second innings to cruise to an 11-1 victory. West Marion stats were not posted as of press deadline Thursday.
The Lady Trojans will host West Lincoln Monday in a non-district contest before traveling to Jeff Davis County Tuesday. They will host Columbia for a rematch Thursday.
