A Marion County man is recovering from his injuries and his wife is charged with shooting him in the back at the store they own in the Improve community.
Katrina Earline Knight, 48, of Sumrall is charged with aggravated domestic violence in connection with the Wednesday afternoon shooting of her husband, James Knight, who remains in stable condition at an area hospital.
“We got a call of a disturbance or a domestic incident at the J&K 1-Stop on Mississippi 44,” Sheriff Berkley Hall said. “While the deputies were responding, it was learned that shots were fired. We knew there were weapons involved.”
Deputies arrived at the store, located at 3415 Mississippi 44, and did not find a victim.
“They made contact with Katrina Knight, who is the co-owner of the J&K grocery with her husband, James Knight,” Hall said. “From what we understand from witnesses in the store is that they got into a verbal altercation that ended up turning physical. As Mr. Knight went to exit the store, Ms. Knight pulled a weapon and fired, striking him in the left back as he was leaving the store. Mr. Knight then drove himself from the scene to Wesley Hospital in Hattiesburg, where he’s still in the hospital in stable condition.”
Hall said deputies took Katrina Knight into custody during the course of the investigation.
“Ms. Knight was brought to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and interviewed, placed in custody and charged with domestic aggravated assault,” he said. “She is now in the Marion County Jail and has a bond of $25,000.”
Hall said the investigation is ongoing but is close to concluding.
“I think basically we’ve made contact with everybody in the store and got statements,” he said. “We’ve charged her with that and she has the right to bond and have her day in court.”
Katrina Knight remained in the Marion County Jail as of deadline Thursday.
