On Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at approximately 3:23 p.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash on Highway 586 in Marion County.
A 1993 Buick Roadmaster, driven by 58-year-old Charles L. Jackson of Foxworth, Mississippi, was traveling west on Highway 586 when it collided with a 2024 Genesis passenger car driven by 72-year-old Evelyn M. McGowan of Jayess, Mississippi, which was traveling east.
Mr. Jackson sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Mrs. McGowan was transported to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
This crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
