The Marion County Historical Society (MCHS) is excited to host the 59th Annual Heritage Festival on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in City Park.
Visitors can enjoy a wide variety of food, craft and art vendors throughout the day. Among the culinary offerings, Cajun delights from the popular Ruby Roux food truck will be available, alongside classic festival fare like hamburgers, hotdogs and sausage dogs from Improve Baptist Church.
The festival’s entertainment lineup is nearly complete, with the opening ceremony kicking off at 9 a.m. Horatio W. Rankin American Legion Post 90 will perform the flag-raising, followed by a stirring rendition of the National Anthem, sung by local talent Brooklyn Baughman. Baughman will continue to entertain on the Zellco Federal Credit Union Stage until 10 a.m., when the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians takes over with their traditional dance performance — always a crowd favorite.
At 11 a.m., American Legion Post 90 will hold a Flag Retirement Ceremony at the Memorial Monument, offering a solemn and respectful tribute.
Following this ceremony, the William Carey Jazz Ensemble will provide live music until 2 p.m. Additional acts and entertainment are still being finalized, ensuring a full day of fun and culture.
The MCHS warmly invites everyone to come out, enjoy the festivities and support the local vendors and performers who help make this event a community favorite year after year.
