Columbia’s Tommy King leaves incredible legacy

One of the Pine Belt’s most beloved Columbia residents, former William Carey University President Tommy King, died Nov. 22 surrounded by family at Forrest General’s Asbury Hospice Center.
King served as president of William Carey for more than 15 years and was beloved by all who knew him.

First airport business breaks ground

Cartier Aviation will be the first permanent business at the Columbia-Marion County Airport after breaking ground Tuesday morning with an expected completion date of March 2024.
Owned by Ed Cartier Jr., Cartier Aviation is an aviation maintenance, repair and modification business that was created by Cartier in January 2022.

Wildcats reach state championship once again

For the second time in three years, the Columbia Wildcats are heading to the Class 4A State Championship as quarterback Collin Haney’s perfect touch pass landed in the arms of Naji Cain for the game-winning touchdown with four seconds left Friday night to beat Poplarville 28-21.
