It took 65 years, four months, three weeks and three days, but Marion County Sheriff J.V. Polk, who was assassinated on his front porch in 1960, was memorialized in perpetuity Friday morning as a stretch of highway on Mississippi 35 N. became Sheriff J.V. Polk Memorial Highway with a ceremony at Bunker Hill Baptist Church.
