Friday will mark the five-year anniversary of the death of Joe Glen Taylor of Foxworth, and his life will be commemorated with a Justice for Joe Walk as his family continues its search for answers.
On March 7, 2020, Taylor was walking up a hill on Shiloh Firetower Road on his way to a family member’s house when he was allegedly shot. He was found unresponsive near Turnage Chapel Road and died on scene. The case has been investigated by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office as a homicide, but charges have not been filed against any suspect in the case.
“It’s been five years and nothing has happened,” Taylor’s daughter, Emiley, said.
To honor Taylor’s life and rally together for justice, there will be a memorial walk Friday from Shiloh Baptist Church to Turnage Chapel Church at 5 p.m. There will also be a balloon release.
Due to the lack of clarity and charges in the homicide case, the case has been turned over to Mississippi Bureau of Investigations Cold Case Unit.
“We just want answers. That’s all we want is answers,” Sherie Cooper said.
Taylor’s mother, Marilyn McWhorter, fought very hard to get justice for her son but recently passed away from cancer. Emiley is now leading the charge to get justice for her father.
Taylor, a West Marion High School graduate, is survived by his two daughters, Emiley and Kiley, and a host of immediate and extended family members and friends.
