The Lady Trojans used stifling defense to steal a 47-36 road win at Tylertown Jan. 22 but saw their offensive surge stall Friday, dropping a 44-32 decision to Presbyterian Christian at home.
Behind a swarming defense that repeatedly forced turnovers and limited second-chance points, West Marion (13-8, 3-3) controlled the paint and pulled away late in the fourth quarter against Tylertown (7-9, 1-5). The win was highlighted by tough, physical play on both ends of the floor.
Freshman Keosha Conerly delivered a standout performance, draining three 3-pointers, scoring a game-high 18 points and securing seven boards. Precious Conerly added an 11-point, 15 rebound double-double, and Callason Barnes chipped in 11 points.
The offensive spark dimmed on Friday when West Marion played host to Presbyterian Christian (15-8, 5-0). The Lady Bobcats built an early advantage and maintained it, holding West Marion to just 32 points. The Lady Trojans battled back in spurts but couldn’t overcome early foul trouble and key turnovers that helped PCS keep control. Precious Conerly scored a team-high 13 points.
West Marion, looking to build on a promising early season, showed grit on the road but will aim to sharpen its offensive execution as the postseason nears.
The Lady Trojans lost 54-28 when they traveled to PCS on Tuesday. West Marion will be back in action on Friday when it travels to face Oak Grove in a non-district matchup.
