Survey will determine Columbia School District’s needs
By Mark Rogers
A survey currently under way will help the Columbia School District find out what direction the community wants it to head in.
It features 16 questions from satisfaction with the district to communication, achievement and even safety issues. Many of the questions offer space to explain an answer in writing.
“It’s part of our 5-year strategic plan,” Director of Curriculum and Assessment Dee Dee Randall said. “We’re going to leave the survey open about two weeks. We’d like as many people as possible to answer it. We really want this information to help us identify what the community thinks we need.”
The link above connects to the survey, or paper copies can be obtained at the Columbia School District and Marion County Development Partnership offices.
“These are open-ended questions,” Randall said. “If we’re not doing what you think we need to do, we need to know. The MCDP is helping us with this effort and emailed the link out to its members. The survey went live on Monday. If someone has a hard copy of it, they can turn it in at our office or at the MCDP offices. The link is really the best way for us to gain the information.”
Results will be compiled and presented at a future school board meeting and discussed with Randall, Superintendent Jason Harris and the rest of the district’s administrative team.
The next regularly scheduled board meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 6, a change from the normal Thursday meetings. The meeting will take place in a new venue, the multi-purpose room at Columbia High School.
Prior to the meeting at 4:30 p.m., the district will host a dedication of the renovations of the Crystelle Ford Auditorium and a new Wildcat sculpture.
