Columbia Academy hired Joey Hawkins as the school’s new head football coach, a source confirmed to the C-P. Hawkins most recently led Presbyterian Christian School, where he served as the school’s football and track coach before retiring in 2018.
Hawkins, 64, saw his most success at Jackson Academy, where his football teams won the 2001, 2003, 2004 and 2005 state championships. His track teams at Jackson Academy also won 11-consecutive state championships. Hawkins also coached at Pillow Academy and his alma mater, Indianola Academy, compiling a 234-75 record across his 37-year coaching career. Hawkins went 6-0 against Columbia Academy while at PCS, and he split a two-game series in 2015 and 2016 with Brad Duncan's West Marion teams.
An introductory press conference for Hawkins will be held at the Fine Arts building at CA Friday at noon.
