The C-P extends its condolences to the families and friends of three men from Marion County, Charles Badger, Kevin Malone and Charles Igleharte, who were killed when a bridge they were working on collapsed Wednesday in Simpson County.
The three men, along with three others who are in critical condition, were working for T.L. Wallace, the contractor for the Mississippi Department of Transportation project, to demolish the bridge when it collapsed. The contract was to replace the bridge on Highway 149 over the Strong River.
Simpson County Sheriff Paul Mullins said in a statement that dispatch received a call of a bridge collapse near D’Lo water park minutes prior to 3 p.m. Wednesday.
“At this time,” a statement from T.L. Wallace says, “we ask for prayers and support for the families and loved ones of the deceased. Our hearts go out to them during this incredibly difficult time. T.L. Wallace Construction, Inc., is committed to providing assistance to the families as they navigate through this unimaginable loss.
“As a local business, we deeply feel the impact of this tragedy within our community. We encourage everyone to come together in support of those affected, honoring the memory of our dear friends and colleagues.”
