An inmate at the Marion County Regional Correctional Facility, Angela Jordan, died early Friday morning, and an investigation is currently ongoing into her death. Marion County Sheriff’s Office officials, as well as the jail, do not suspect foul play, but an autopsy will be performed to determine cause of death.
Sheriff Berkley Hall said when Jordan was discovered in her rack, the correctional officers, who are all CPR and first aid trained, tried to resuscitate her until AAA arrived and took over. AAA transported her to Marion General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by the doctor and Coroner Jessie Graham.
“From what can I gather, we did everything we can possibly do,” Hall said. “You don’t want to see anybody lose a family member, period. We’re praying for the family and their loss of a family member.”
Graham said Jordan was transported Monday morning for an autopsy to the State Crime Lab. Hall said the results could take a few days or a few weeks, pending on the State Crime Lab.
Maj. Zach Guidroz said the jail reviews everything that transpired when an incident occurs, and the internal investigation showed the staff followed protocol by administering CPR until AAA could take over.
“As of right now, we haven’t found any wrongdoing,” he said.
Guidroz offered his condolences to the family of Jordan for their loss.
Jordan, 46, of Oak Vale was arrested Nov. 16 on drug charges.
Jordan’s family opted not to comment until after the autopsy is completed.
