The Marion County Sheriff’s Office made a traffic stop shortly after midnight Tuesday that yielded two arrests, large amounts of opiates, currency and a firearm.
Arrested were Kenshawn Lamont Turner, 22, of Woodville and Michael Woodard, 24, of Hattiesburg. Both have been charged and are currently being held in the Marion County Jail under an $80,000 bond each as of press time Thursday. Turner and Woodard appeared before Justice Court Judge Brandon Rowell on Wednesday.
The 572 dosage units of Oxycodone seized have a street value of $17,000, according to Capt. Pete Williams with the sheriff’s office. Williams said he believes this put a real dent in the pocket of the dealer.
Williams said deputies were conducting a safety checkpoint at the intersection of Mississippi 586 and Mississippi 587 when deputies noticed a vehicle trying to avoid the checkpoint. Deputies pulled the vehicle over and then made the discovery.
Woodard was charged with controlled substance sale/manufacture/possession with intent to distribute Schedule I-II drug and DUI 2nd offense (1)(b) under the influence of any substance that would impair. Turner was charged with controlled substance, possession of Schedule I-II drug (over 10 to 30 grams).
“This was a good thing for the county. A job well done to the deputies for the arrests. We believe the pills would have reached the streets,” Williams said.
