Work continues on the airport runway project, including the closure of Airport Road beginning next week.
Starting Tuesday, Sept. 3 and continuing for an estimated four weeks, a portion of Airport Road will be closed from Old Mississippi 35 to near the animal shelter. During that time the new portion of Airport Road will be tied in to the current road.
Beacon Construction is working on the $1.4 million relocation of Airport Road. The current location of Airport Road in front of the airport runs into what will be considered the Runway Protection Area, an area required by the Federal Aviation Administration.
Due to scheduling conflicts and the weather, tying in the new portion of Airport Road with the old has been repeatedly delayed.
The relocation of Airport Road is in conjunction with the $10.2 million runway expansion that is currently being constructed at the airport.
