The front lines of America’s latest war have looked very different in recent months during the coronavirus pandemic. Soldiers have been replaced by medical personnel and first responders as the country’s best defense against a deadly attacker, and Columbia Academy wanted to do its part in showing its appreciation.
The Marion County private school provided meals for medical personnel Wednesday, distributing food from its Cougar Café, to thank them for their efforts.
“We wanted to do something to help our community,” Mike Barber said. “We respect and recognize that the people on our front line are medical personnel. Our law enforcement is right there with them so we helped them last week.”
Barber, Tonya Ball and Renee Simmons cooked beef and cheese enchiladas, beans and rice for medical professionals, and law enforcement was served pulled pork sandwiches with baked beans last week. Jenny Morea also baked cakes to be served.
CA served Deaconess HomeCare, Internal Medicine Clinic and Farmer’s Med Shoppe 15 meals each, Dr, Kevin Holmes’ office 13 meals, St. Luke Home Health & Hospice 12 meals, AAA nine meals and Marion General Hospital’s night shift 40 meals.
