Firefighter Don Moree of the Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department heads up a ladder to extinguish an attic blaze Thursday afternoon at 398 Expose Road.
“It started in the kitchen. I heard something pop,” resident Bernadette Smith said.
She said she thought she got it out, but then the kitchen ceiling began collapsing.
Someone else had to call in the fire because her phone was dead.
Smith’s children were at school, and she was home alone at the time of the fire.
Tri-Community firefighters quickly got it out and used a fan to remove smoke from inside the home.
