A fire on Pickwick Road in Foxworth Thursday exposed an alleged animal cruelty case that involves at least 30 dogs.
A mobile home blaze was believed to have been intentionally set, according to Columbia Animal Control Officer Danielle Barber. When members of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Southwest Marion Volunteer Fire Department arrived on the scene, they discovered the dogs.
Currently the Columbia Animal Control and Rescue Center has six of the most injured dogs. The goal is to collect all of the dogs, Barber said.
However, the owner of the dogs has not surrendered the animals, so proper medical attention cannot be given, Barber said.
The case is still under investigation. The C-P will update this story as more details emerge.
