Despite the hot temperatures Saturday, the Marion County Historical Society Heritage Festival was still a success.
More than 90 vendors of all kinds had booths offering information, food, arts, crafts and just about anything a person could want.
President of the Historical Society Lori Watts said, “We are grateful to the community for its annual support of the Heritage Festival. Even in the record heat, we had great participation from vendors and good, strong attendance. We appreciate everyone who had a part in its success, and we look forward to celebrating our 55th consecutive event next year."
Peggy Sauls, enjoying the shade, said “It’s very good. Everybody is being friendly, and the food is good. I am enjoying seeing new faces.”
Jessie and Kristian Morgan said they had a great time at the event.
Members of American Legion Post 90 opened the day with the raising of the U.S. flag.
Entertainment on the stage was delivered by Wesley Fortenberry, the William Carey Knights of Jazz and Cary Hudson.
In addition to the action at City Park, Friends of the Library held a book sale, allowing people a spot to cool off while browsing through the books.
In addition to the Historical Society, sponsors of the event include the Pearl River Valley Electric Power Association, Citizens Bank and Hattiesburg Coca Cola Bottling Co. The event is held every year on the first Saturday in October.
