The 54th annual Heritage Festival is coming up Oct. 5 at City Park and will once again include a wide variety of vendors and entertainment.
“I love seeing all the local talent displayed at the festival. People here in Marion County have so much skills and talents,” Chairman Kelly Roberts said.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. that Saturday, and vendor booths are still available. Call (601) 731-3999 for inquiries.
Proceeds from the Marion County Historical Society fundraiser help the organization in its efforts to preserve the county’s history.
The historical society will also have an essay contest for ninth through 12th graders sponsored by Zellco Federal Credit Union. More information will be forthcoming regarding the contest.
One of the normal features that will be missed is the Country Showdown, which the last couple of years had been held at the festival. Roberts said the committee is still working on the entertainment lineup.
Roberts said she is waiting to hear from the Hattiesburg Zoo and from the volunteer fire departments to see if any are coming and setting up.
American Legion Post 90 will open the event with a flag ceremony.
In addition to the vendors, there will be a flea market area for those wanting to sell gently used items. “To me this is the perfect place for Christmas shopping,” Roberts said.
